EDGE vs GPRS: Yang Mana Lebih Bagus? Kenapa signal saya EDGE dan bukan GPRS?

Ini ada beberapa pertanyaan yang kami menerima dari member lewat comments dan forum BerryIndo


Penjelasannya singkat adalah:

1. EDGE (EGPRS) adalah GPRS on steroids.

2. EDGE or EGPRS bisa data transfer rates sampai dengan 385 kilobits/sec. GPRS hanya dari 9 sampai dengan 170 kbit/s.

3. EDGE ada fitur 3G tapi bukan 3G, pada umumnya EDGE disebut sebagai 2.5G.


Tentunya EDGE adalah jaringan yang lebih optimal dengan data transfer yang lebih cepat dibanding dengan GPRS, kenapa kadang bisa dapat signal EDGE dan kadang hanya GPRS? Itu saya rasa tergantung dengan teknologi yang tersedia oleh pemancar BTS di area lokasi sebagai signal. Sepertinya kenapa kadang kami tidak bisa menerima signal 3G dan hanya dapat signal GPRS.


Penjelasan Lengkap EDGE vs GPRS

Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) (also known as Enhanced GPRS (EGPRS), or IMT Single Carrier (IMT-SC), or Enhanced Data rates for Global Evolution) is a backward-compatible digital mobile phone technology that allows improved data transmission rates, as an extension on top of standard GSM. EDGE is considered a 3G radio technology and is part of ITU’s 3G definition. EDGE was deployed on GSM networks beginning in 2003— initially by Cingular (now AT&T) in the United States.

EDGE is standardized by 3GPP as part of the GSM family, and it is an upgrade that provides more than three-fold increase in both the capacity and performance of GSM/GPRS networks. It does this by introducing sophisticated methods of coding and transmitting data, delivering higher bit-rates per radio channel.

EDGE can be used for any packet switched application, such as an Internet connection. EDGE-delivered data services create a broadband internet-like experience for the mobile phone user. High bandwidth data applications such as video services and other multimedia benefit from EGPRS’ increased data capacity.

Evolved EDGE continues in Release 7 of the 3GPP standard providing reduced latency and more than doubled performance e.g. to complement High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA). Peak bit-rates of up to 1Mbit/s and typical bit-rates of 400kbit/s can be expected.

EDGE/EGPRS is implemented as a bolt-on enhancement for 2G and 2.5G GSM and GPRS networks, making it easier for existing GSM carriers to upgrade to it. EDGE/EGPRS is a superset to GPRS and can function on any network with GPRS deployed on it, provided the carrier implements the necessary upgrade.

EDGE requires no hardware or software changes to be made in Global System for Mobile Communications core networks. EDGE compatible transceiver units must be installed and the base station subsystem needs to be upgraded to support EDGE. If the operator already has this in place, which is often the case today, the network can be upgraded to EDGE by activating an optional software feature. Today EDGE is supported by all major chip vendors for both GSM and WCDMA/HSPA.

In addition to Gaussian minimum-shift keying (GMSK), EDGE uses higher-order PSK/8 phase shift keying (8PSK) for the upper five of its nine modulation and coding schemes. EDGE produces a 3-bit word for every change in carrier phase. This effectively triples the gross data rate offered by GSM. EDGE, like GPRS, uses a rate adaptation algorithm that adapts the modulation and coding scheme (MCS) according to the quality of the radio channel, and thus the bit rate and robustness of data transmission. It introduces a new technology not found in GPRS, Incremental Redundancy, which, instead of retransmitting disturbed packets, sends more redundancy information to be combined in the receiver. This increases the probability of correct decoding.

EDGE can carry a bandwidth up to 236.8 kbit/s (with end-to-end latency of less than 150 ms) for 4 timeslots (theoretical maximum is 473.6 kbit/s for 8 timeslots) in packet mode. This means it can handle four times as much traffic as standard GPRS. EDGE meets the International Telecommunications Union’s requirement for a 3G network, and has been accepted by the ITU as part of the IMT-2000 family of 3G standards. It also enhances the circuit data mode called HSCSD, increasing the data rate of this service. EDGE is part of ITU’s 3G definition and is considered a 3G radio technology.

Bluetooth passkey is a pairing passcode for your BlackBerry Bold. With it you can pair your BlackBerry Bold with other bluetooth devices and transfer files via bluetooth.

How to pair BlackBerry device with Bluetooth headsets?

Firstly turn on the bluetooth device you want to pair, then from your Blackberry Home screen, press the Menu key > select Manage Connections > select Set Up Bluetooth > Edit the device name, if desired > select OK > select Search > select a device > then enter the bluetooth passkey (The default passkey is four zeros (0000)) for the Bluetooth device > press the Touchpad.

Camera BlackBerry Tidak Bisa Buka

BlackBerry Error: “Could not start the camera. Close other Applications and try opening the camera again”

Ketemu pesan error ini pada saat mau menggunaka camera di BlackBerry anda?

Ini adalah masalah low memory dan banyak aplikasi yang terbuka di Handheld anda. Sering kali kami buka aplikasi di Handheld BlackBerry tanpa menutupinya secara pasti. Jika kami klik “end call/power” button untuk keluar dari aplikasi, aplikasi tersebut tidak tertutup dan masih “running”. Untuk menutupi/close aplikasi, anda harus klik tombol “escape” yg di sebelah kanan trackball/trackpad.

Coba close semua aplikasi atau lakukan reset.

Q: “saya sudah lakukan reset BlackBerry namum masih tetap muncul error tersebut – Could not start the camera. Close other Applications and try opening the camera again”

Kalau begitu, mungkin applications memory anda sudah low.

Cek applications memory anda, di options > memory dan lihat berapa free space di application memory. Harusnya diatas 35mb untuk berjalan lancar.

Hapuskan messages, emails, chats, themes, games dan Applications yang tidak berguna untuk free memory space.

How to Delete and Edit BlackBerry Speed Dial List

Sometimes we want to edit new speed dial on our BlackBerry. We will have to delete some speed dial number to add new number for the contact.


If you want to delete a speed dial number on your BlackBerry Device

Press the talk button to bring up the phone function

> then select menu

> View Speed Dial List

> select the number you want to delete and hit the ‘del (delete) key.


If you want to edit a speed dial number on your BlackBerry Device

Press the talk button to bring up the phone function

> then select menu

> View Speed Dial List

> highlight the speed dial and select edit > it will bring up the contact menu.


If you want to change the contact speed dial, you can enter another number for the same contact , Change it in contacts first and then delete and re-add the speed dial.

Tidak Bisa Akses Website BerryIndo?

Tidak Bisa Akses Browsing Website / Forum BerryIndo.com ?

Beberapa hari yang lalu kami menerima laporan bahwa website dan forum BerryIndo tidak bisa di akses lewat computer padahal bisa akses lewat BlackBerry browser. Terutama yang menggunakan isp smart. Herannya, bisa browsing lewat handphone smart tetapi pada saat dijadikan modem di laptop, berryindo tidak bisa diakses.

Setelah beberapa hari selidiki dengan hosting server, masalahnya ternyata ada beberapa ip dari smart dan internet cafe telah di blokir oleh firewall server hosting kami.

Ini dikarenakan beberapa ip tersebut telah diblokir oleh host kami karena termasuk ip blacklist.

Kadang memang bisa ketemu hal begitu didunia maya. :(

Hari ini, sudah kami minta host kami unblok ip smart tersebut dan sudah bisa di akses bagi pengguna jaringan smart.

Untuk yang menggunakan speedy, anda juga bisa coba hubungi customer service untuk unblok ip biar bisa browsing berryindo.com

How Rearrange Application iCons on BlackBerry Handheld

You can rearrange icons and applications on your Blackberry Handheld and also rearrange certain apps/icons in the APPS folder.

Let them appear within a specific sequence.


For example, from your BlackBerry Handheld application screen,
select the application Icon you want to move

> Press the BlackBerry menu button

> select Move from the drop down list

> use BlackBerry trackball to move the icon where you would like it be

> Press the BlackBerry trackball in to place it there

> your icon should now have locked itself in the position you desire.

BlackBerry Pearl Browser configurations and settings for 8100

When you setup setup configuarations on your BlackBerry pearl browser, you may do something wrong-now, whenever you wheel over to open the browser, it locks up (no keys, back button, etc will work) and you are forced to hit the power off button once to get the functionality back.

You should reset the BlackBerry Pearl 8100 Browser settings you had adjusted.

After Changing the default browser configuration to Internet Browser, your BlackBerry pearl will work again.

From the Home screen, open the BlackBerry Pearl Browser application, open the menu, and then click Options. Click General Properties. Set the Default View field to Internet Browser. Open the menu, and then click Save.

You can also try to restore your BlackBerry to factory settings to fix this problem. from Settings> Security Options> General Settings> Click trackball for sub menu and select Wipe Handheld. This will restore your BB to factory settings. However be aware you will lose all infomation.

If you learn more about BlackBerry Smartphones, some simple ways will help you extend its battery life.

First of all, you should always remember closing applications and do not keep them running on the background, it will drain BlackBerry battery quickly.

BlackBerry Smartphones Tour 9630 Wont Stop Vibrating Problem

Sometimes my BlackBerry Tour 9630 wont stop vibrating. It is a really annoying problem. when I received txt message, my BlackBerry Tour 9630 wont stop vibrating untill I opened the message. I tried to turn off vibrate vibration mode completely, but it would not work.

Then I tried to reset all BlackBerry Tour 9630 profiles to default, it still don’t work.

Finally, I had to wipe off BlackBerry 9630 and reload the operating system. Now my BlackBerry Tour 9630 won’t keep vibrating untill I open the message. Do you have other simple ways to solve the probem?

3 cara Mengirimkan Contacts Info BlackBerry:

1. Cara Copy Paste

Buka contacts, pilih nama contacts dan klik/buka lagi contacts, scroll ke nomor yang mau di copy, klik menu BB dan pilih copy untuk copy nomor lalu paste ke aplikasi sms/bbm/email untuk di kirimkan kepada teman anda.


2. Forward to Messenger (BBM) Contact

Buka aplikasi contacts, scroll over nama contacts, klik menu BB dan pilih “forward to Messenger Contact”, pilih BBM contacts yang anda ingin kirimkan informasi contacts tersebut dan kirim.

NB: Cara tersebut akan kirimkan SEMUA data didalam data contacts termasuk notes


3. Send as Attachment via Email

Buka aplikasi contacts, scroll over nama contacts, klik menu BB dan pilih “send as attachment” untuk dikirim via email , pilih/ketik contacts email yang anda ingin kirimkan informasi contacts tersebut dan kirim.

NB: Cara tersebut akan kirimkan SEMUA data didalam data contacts termasuk notes

How to Transfer Pictures from Blackberry Device to MAC

After storing pictures on your Backberry Handheld, you can transfer it to mac with some ways.

You can buy Missing Sync for BlackBerry or a microSD card to transfer pictures to mac, or send pictures by email, or transfer pictures Backberry Handheld to MAC from via bluetooth.

You can purchases The Missing Sync for BlackBerry which will sync music and pictures between Backberry Device and MAC.


If you have a microSD card for your Blackberry Device, then you can turn on Mass Storage and drag and drop pictures into the correct folder on mac directly.


If you have pair your Backberry Handheld with MAC via bluetooth, you can transfer pictures from media> selected pics > went to options and clicked on explore > then device memory > then home > then user > then pictures , highlight the pictures you want and send them to my MacBook Pro via bluetooth.

Pingin buat special characters untuk nama anda di Blackberry Messenger profile status? Special BBM message atau email?

Beberapa huruf pada keyboard Blackberry mempunyai karakter alternatif didalamnya,

Terus tekan kemudian gerakan trackball/trackpad ke arah kanan, maka ia akan berubah menjadi Ç, gerakan ke kanan lagi akan berubah menjadi © dan seterusnya (kalau digerakan ke kiri akan berubah menjadi karakter sebelumnya)

BlackBerry Smartphones “Out of Memory Error” and Fix

If your BlackBerry Device display message “Out of Memory error”, it maybe caused by too many calendar or address book entries. Or it may also be caused by too many third-party applications on your BlackBerry Handheld.

* Keep only essential contacts in your address book.

* Use the Application Loader on the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to remove any unnecessary third-party software from your BlackBerry Device.

* Delete all media files like pictures and videos from your application memory. Or you can buy a large capacity memory card for your BlackBerry Handheld to store media files.

* Another solution is to store your Applications and themes to memory card using the Aerize Card Loader Applications which can be purchased from MobiHand Appstore.
