Artists from 14 countries gather in Bandung

Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - Artists from 14 countries would join the 2010 ASEAN Plus Art and Culture (APAC) festival due to be held in West Java`s arts center here on Saturday and Sunday.

The festival would also be participated in by artists of 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) and their three main dialogue partners -- China, Korea, and Japan.

Head of West Java Province`s Culture and Tourism Office Herdiwan Iing Suranta said here Friday that the festival was meant to promote each participating country`s local cultural uniqueness.

Through the event, the local cultural uniqueness was developed to be part of attractive industrial products in free markets, he said.

The 2010 APAC festival itself would officially be opened by West Java Governor H.Ahmad Heryawan on Saturday.

Besides featuring local and international artists, the festival would also be completed with food bazaar and arts and culture expo, he said.

"Buncis" dance and Angklung orchestra of Indonesia would be performed at the opening ceremony.

About the presence of the Czech Republic`s artists, Suranta said their performance would be part of the opening ceremonial programs along with those of China, Indonesia, and other countries.

China itself would feature "Liong Quing" while Indonesia would perform a mask dance
of West Java town of Indramayu, he said.

ASEAN consists of Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. (*)
